- Do you have fine wrinkles around your eyes and mouth?
- Have you noticed that your skin is less uniform or has brown pigmentation?
If the answer is yes, our team can help. A chemical peel is a cost-effective way to improve the quality of your skin.
What Is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel uses a chemical solution to improve the texture and tone of your skin. This is accomplished by removing any damaged outer layers. In general, chemical peels can help with:
- Acne or acne scars
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Irregular skin pigmentation with brown or red splotches
- Sun-damaged skin
There are a variety of levels of chemical peels. They also come with varying levels of strength and recovery time. During your visit, the risks and benefits of chemical peels will be explained, and our team will recommend the best treatment option for you.
We often use trichloroacetic chemical peels at the time of facial cosmetic surgical procedures. TCA chemical peels help remove brown spots and reduce fine wrinkles.
The chemical causes your skin to peel, and in older people the skin usually looks red. It heals over the same time as cosmetic surgery.
Are There Any Side Effects or Complications to Chemical Peels?
Every medical procedure has some risks, and it is important to understand them. Dr. McCann will explain the risks and complications of a chemical peel.
Possible side effects may include:
- Temporary or permanent changes to skin pigmentation -either lighter or darker
- Infections or scarring, though these are rare.
- Reactivation of cold sores in reaction to the treatment.
Having cosmetic treatments performed by an experienced doctor reduces the risk of complications. This is just one reason why you should see Dr. McCann.
What is IPL Therapy?
IPL, or Intense Pulsated Light is a treatment for removing red or brown pigment from the skin. It can also reduce wrinkles, spider veins, and enlarged pores.
IPL involves using a laser to remove the outer layer of skin (epidermis). Once the epidermis is properly removed, we stimulate collagen growth within the dermis.
The dermis is the thick middle layer of skin. IPL usually requires a series of treatments. There is virtually no recovery time, with many patients coming in on their lunch break!
Are There Any Side Effects?
There can be minor side effects, such as:
- Minor Bruising
How Should I Care For My Face After IPL Treatment?
You will receive specific instructions to follow at your visit. The most important thing to do is to avoid the sun whenever possible.
You should protect your face with a hat and strong sunscreen whenever you go outside.
We can also use Ultherapy high intensity ultrasound. This reduces fine wrinkles on the face with a no-recovery afternoon treatment.
